Curious just how many times this has happened to others. I set out on a walk one afternoon down the railroad tracks where there is marshy low lands and cattails to try and capture a red wind blackbird. They are very skiddish and with a 200mm lense I still can not get a good shot. I walked 2 miles down the track and about a mile and half on the way back it started pouring down rain. Yep, I was a little perturb that I didn't make it back before it decided to dump on me, but I kept drudging foreward. When the rain let up, I had turned around to see If I could spot the illusive red wing black bird and VOILA, God, mother nature (however you wish to look at it) PRESENTed me with a gift.. this glorious rainbow.
Show me your shots and the story behind them of "I SET OUT TO GET ONE THING AND THE POWERS TO BE PRESENTED ME WITH A DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITY".
I was out butterfly hunting about a month ago and getting frustrated as I couldn't get a single butterfly to land when, there in front of me sits this *amazing* neon coloured dragonfly! He sat still for ages and I was able to get super close. So, I might not have got a butterfly, but I was very happy I had gone out that day!
I set out to get the sunrise and moonset at the same time of day but slept about 3 minutes too late. When I got to the spot for the shot I was met by this instead and felt just as grateful for this beauty.
@grammyn wow! @shirljess You are one lucky girl getting to see that! @beautifulthing what about exclamation points? I love to use those. i want to make sure the are PC for the internet. :)

Went out one evening expecting to get some run of the mill twilight shots and was presented with a fabulous sunset combined with the highest tide I've ever seen - the gods can come together and present something magical sometimes ;-)
This week I was feeling very flat and like it's all too much to take a photo every day. I spotted a long brick building so parked in front of it to take the "I've hit a brick wall" shot, through the car window. I turned around and looked through the passenger window and saw this girl on the station platform. Zoomed right in on her through the fence, and voila, very pleased with this shot which received lots of comments.
@tulipgirl Awesome shot. Did you take this through a fence? I love the patern overlay and all the shine from the bench... great capture and great story.. isn't it funny in life just when we think it's not going to get any better we get a big surprise?
@shirljess Thank you. That's exactly what I ended up thinking! Yes through a high chainwire fence surrounding the train station. And I also love the bench - didn't even notice how metallic it was until I uploaded it, so the crop was all for the bench!
I headed up north to shoot some spring landscape shots. I did get some of those while I was there, but I ended up with this one on the morning before I left for home.
