Technique Challenge #4 - Flipped Reflections

May 8th, 2013
Congratulations again to @srahman sofian abdul rahman for winning technique challenge 3. Since Sofian chose not to host, Kathy @myhrhelper invited me to host the latest edition of Technique Challenge. After reviewing past challenges here and from other themes and competitions, I wanted to find something that has not been done much before, is fairly easy to do, involves creativity and gives the opportunity to look at and present the world a little differently. Thus I give you "Flipped Reflections".

The challenge is to shoot a reflection so that the reflection fills the frame, or at least splits the frame. Then rotate the shot so that the reflection is flipped either right side up or I suppose even sideways. In any event the reflection should be the featured image in the photo. Depending upon the clarity, color, lighting, etc., of the reflection, the image may range from appearing "almost normal" to dreamy to a water color painting. So have fun and be creative. I post below some of my photos as examples of what I'm talking about.

To post a photo on this thread:
1) Go to your page that has the photo you would like to post.
2) Find the code located toward the bottom right side of your page. The code is on the right side of the word "share". Copy that code and paste it in this thread.

TAG your photos โ€œ technique4". All photos must be taken within the challenge dates starting Wed May 8 and ending Sat May 18 midnight. Enter as many photos as you like. Voting will last about 3 days. The winner will host a new challenge (or invite someone else to host it).

Kathy if I left anything out please jump in. Have fun everyone!

I may actually try this. I'm slightly intimidated, but will see what I can manage. If I have any questions or concerns, I know who to call.
May 8th, 2013
@adamj - definitely go for it!
May 8th, 2013
looks great, will see what i can do also
May 8th, 2013
@adamj do it! it's easy enough to to and lots of fun to play with... it's amazing how different and surreal the images start to look when flipped :)
May 8th, 2013
Did this one a few days ago :0)
May 8th, 2013
And this one...
May 8th, 2013
@espyetta - Wow those are fabulous! Well now you'll have to do another so its within the date range ;)
May 8th, 2013
@michaelelliott I will try! It is supposed to keep raining! :0)
May 8th, 2013
Here is one I put up last week, I know the date isn't good for the challenge, but I thought I'd share it anyway since it is a flipped reflection.
May 8th, 2013
@espyetta Love your reflection shots, mine was too early for the challenge too. :(
May 8th, 2013
@michaelelliott brilliant idea dude. Note to self. FIND WATER SOURCE.
May 8th, 2013
I have done some of these in the past....off to find a puddle to have another go!!
May 8th, 2013
At 38.5 weeks pregnant I make no promises about doing a current one to enter in this comp! But I really liked the idea, and found this one of mine from a shoot done in 2011 for the cover of Australian Yoga Life mag:
May 8th, 2013
wonderful idea - not sure i have the equipment for it tho!
May 8th, 2013
I'd love to give this a go. Thanks for the challenge. :)
May 8th, 2013
I will try to give this a go! I love this idea!
@michaelelliott I Thank you so much for teaching this one!!

You have to try this one! Even if this is a technique you have done before we can get some real creative and interesting shots. Let's see how creative you can get - I dare you! Please tag anyone you know for the challenge too.

Gives such a fab effect. I have never tried this. Will keep a look out as I enjoy canal/river reflections. All I need now is sun:-o
May 8th, 2013
I thought I would give this a go. The results of my first experiment are certainly not in the same league as others posted here, but I feel that it has a element of crude charm and hopefully will encourage others. The tree reflection is from my car's windscreen. The windscreen wasn't particular clean and has leaves and other debris scattered across it from the storm that just passed by. Excuses I know :)

May 9th, 2013
A few people mentioned that I should enter my shot from the 8th into this, so with a flip-n-crop, here it is.

The original is HERE.
May 10th, 2013
these shots are so great, will have to try this,
May 10th, 2013
So nice of you to chose a technique I had already shot,@michaelelliot!
May 10th, 2013
@grammyn Thats fabulous! Love how the guy is only in the reflection.
May 10th, 2013
@fifimac -Excellent!
May 10th, 2013
Just a quick one from yesterday on the local pond. I think it could do with some paint filters, and I'll look into that later perhaps. I'll post up several more from the rain puddles later in the day.

May 10th, 2013
Here's one. Reflection courtesy of my kitchen counter.

May 10th, 2013
@michaelelliott thanks, Michael!

May 11th, 2013
May 11th, 2013
@bulldog very nice!
May 11th, 2013
@nadaa funky! And I just assumed they had to be water or puddles but ou were smart and realized that was not the case!
May 11th, 2013
@michaelelliott we finally had some sun and no,puddles...did not shoot a pic for this...yet. Now I see @nadaa and her glass reflection I have an idea.
May 11th, 2013
@espyetta - yes reflections can be found in hard shiny surfaces and all kinds of things. Not just puddles or lakes. Look around and see what you can come up with.
May 11th, 2013
@frankhymus - this is a puddle reflection? Looks like a view from rain running on window glass. Great shot.
May 11th, 2013
@michaelelliott Yep, a puddle in the parking lot. Round the edges you can just make out the ashphalt.
May 11th, 2013
Ha ha ha, this is great!
@grammyn
May 11th, 2013
@grammyn good one, Katy! The swimming pool that attacks all the frogs? :0)
May 11th, 2013
Had perfect weather conditions for reflections in the dams.

May 11th, 2013
@grammyn What a fantastic picture of the dog reflected in the pool! Love it!
