EOTB or Eye of the Beholder, what does it involve? The competition was started by Jeff, and in Jeff's own words: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". In my words “A good excuse to go out looking for grunge”.
Here's how it works:
The challenge is to find something most people would not consider to be beautiful, and find a way to capture an image that IS beautiful, or has impact.
The advice below is copied from the last call.
“You can achieve your beauty any way you desire. This challenge will help you with your composition and lighting skills. The way you compose the shot or the way you use light will usually be the way you bring out the beauty. It will also help you look at your surroundings differently. Everything is potentially a beautiful photograph. It’s not a matter of finding something to photograph, it’s a matter of finding a way to photograph something that makes photographing it worthwhile.
There is not specific item you have to photograph for this challenge. And the only rule is that the subject you photograph has to be something that, if people were watching you photograph it, would be wondering what has possessed you to photograph something so plain, bland, boring, ugly, etc. Beauty is where you find it, and it is all around you. Train your eye to see things differently.”
The challenge begins on July 4th (Thursday) and runs through to midnight (BST) on July 7th (Sunday). Entries must be taken and posted within this time frame. As winner of EOTB11 I have the dubious honour of selecting the 5 finalists then voting will take place as soon as possible after that, probably 8th and 9th.
Please tag your entries EOTB12
After voting the lucky person will have the honor of selecting the 5 finalists for Eye of the Beholder 12
Hope you find some inspiration and have fun!!
Oh - please also post your entries under this thread if you feel inclined. Would be a good way to inspire others.
@pennyp how do you want the pictures posted, here? or would you like them sent to you???...oh, and how do you post pictures in the reply area?..I think this is terrific !!
@jean107 No worries. Glad you figured it out. Looking forward to seeing your entry or entries, as far as I know you can enter as many times as you like - you just have to take and post the entries within the time frame. ;)
Hi @ilanga. To get the image to show in this thread you have to copy and paste the code shown in the share section in the bottom right hand of the page where the photo is posted, underneath all the photo information. To enter you need to tag it with EOTB12.
I have tagged a photo EITB12 but not sure where to paste the code to. My 1st day with the 365 project. Excuse my ignorance. Would appreciate some guidance on that please. Tks
365 will not allow you to post more than one photograph per day. When you post the date defaults to the date in the exif info, i.e. the date you took the photo. You can change the date when posting at the bottom of the screen where you organise your photo when you are posting, and you can change the date if you edit the photo. You shouldn't need to delete the first photo, you can post your entry tomorrow.
@andreajoy You need to tag your entry as EOTB12 (not EITB12, guess it was a typo) to enter the composition. To show your photo in this thread, reply to the thread copying and pasting the code as described above in the thread. You'll see threads showing photos all over the site, this is how it's done.
Hope that helps. Just shout it you need any more help.
Hi Penny, I see that my photo appears with 2 others. . .how can I load my "normal" 6th photo? What if I want to add more to the competition? The date does not allow!
@ilanga You can only add one photo per day to each album. As you only have free membership you only have one album. If you have Ace Membership, which costs US$20 per year, you can have up to three albums, each with one photo per day, and you get other stuff as well like stats etc. (You can find out more by searching discussions.)
If you want to enter the competitions, you do it as part of your project rather than as well as, if that makes sense. You can enter this competition as many times as you like as long as you the photographs are taken and posted within the time frame. If you want to enter other competitions, the rules may different so read them carefully. There are other things going on too, like 'word of the day' (this month it is Try-4-July which isn't a competition but is a lot of fun and is quite helpful if you need inspiration for subjects; you can dip in and out of stuff like that.
