New ABSTRACT Challenge

January 26th, 2014
Thanks to everyone who voted for my photo in the last abstract challenge. Thanks also to @shannejwo for hosting the last abstract challenge.

Gena @eyesmile was the winner for the wheel mundane challenge and Gena has chosen MAILBOX as the subject for the next mundane challenge.

The rules for the Abstract Challenge are as follows:

1. IMAGES MAY NOT BE DOUBLE TAGGED. (Your mundane image must differ from your abstract image.) Here is a definition of abstract: http://www.photokonnexion.com/?page_id=2406

2.The challenge will run concurrent to the Mundane challenge although I am basing the times on my location (AEDT). Hope this is okay.
The challenge will start Saturday 25th January and run through to the end of Sunday Feb 2nd (AEDT).

The finalists will be announced on Monday Feb 3rd (AEDT) for voting.

The winner will be announced on Thursday Feb 6th (AEDT) 2014.

Please tag your entries: abstract-mailbox

You can check out the entries here: http://365project.org/tags/abstract-mailbox

Feel free to post your entries onto this thread as well, as inspiration for others!

The following is a list of objects used so far for the challenge:

Can someone please explain to me the difference between the types of photos for the mundane/abstract competitions of the same theme? I'd like to take part but I'm slightly confused about the differences between the two. Thanks!

Mundane Challenge ""The only rule is that there can be no question that the item in the challenge is the star"" http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/20825/new-mundane-challenge

My understanding of abstract is to make the viewer see something else other than what the subject really is. In this case, mailbox.

The two challenges are very different. The mundane is to show the mailbox and the abstract is not to show the mailbox.

@cgarner @cravenheart As Dorrena @dmortega said, in the mundane challenges it should be obvious what the subject is. In the abstract challenge, it may not be so obvious to the viewer what the subject is. There is a link in the original discussion that explains 'abstract'.

It may also be useful for you to have a look at past challenges to get an idea of the differences. Just search tags - for example 'abstract-peg', 'mundane-peg'.

Hope this helps. Look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I didn't realize there was an abstract mailbox challenge...guess I didn't know that the mundane and abstract go hand in hand...that's pretty cool. I need to stay in better touch with the challenges etc.
