Thanks for choosing my beer bottle picture as winner of the last Mundane Challenge and thanks also to Channelf @channelf for hosting and everyone else who took part!
It was great to win but the downside is the "prize" is getting to host a new challenge, something I'm finding harder than taking part in one. Everything I thought of during the day was already on the list of previous challenges but I've managed to come up with something at the last minute.
Almost a copy and paste from last challenge...which was almost a copy and paste from the challenge before that.
The mundane item for this week is "chain". Bicycle, necklace, for anchoring a boat or flushing a toilet, whatever you find at home or outside !
You are free to use any photographic technique you would like to use to capture this mundane object.
"The only rule is that there can be no question that the item in the challenge is the star"
Based on the last challenge I believe the starting date should be Saturday March 8th and runs through to the end of Sunday Mar 16th (EST)
The finalists will be announced on Monday Mar 17th(EST) for voting. The winner will be announced on Thursday Mar 20th (EST) 2014.
Please tag your entries mundane-chain.
Your entry must be taken within the challenge time frame to be considered as a finalist.
Feel free to post your entries on this thread as well to inspire others.
The following is a list of objects so far used for this challenge: toothbrush, screwdriver, veggie peeler, bar of soap, scissors, electric plug, paper clip, jar, language, cardboard, toothpick, hex key, hair comb, screw, button, key, coin, ballpoint pen, shoe, glass, plastic bag, hair, books, lightbulb, toilet paper, envelopes, door handle, tea bag, broom, tin can, egg(s), shoelaces, clothes peg/pin, wheel, mailbox, pill, bottle.
@lambda I wasn't sure about the first one but it grows on you. The foreground and background are nicely out of focus and the metal beam leads you to the chain.
The composition in the second one is simple but effective and I wouldn't have thought of including the shadow.
I noticed you used a very high ISO in both shots. Was that intentional ?
@iqscotland Yes I did set the ISO high for both shots because there wasn't enough light. Maybe I could have turned it down a bit, given my camera actually performs fairly well with low light. Yes I was wondering about the shadow too - I should have cropped it out. Thanks for your comments!
Some exceptional entries here. Though mine isn't artistic ... the chain and background have significant sentimental value to me ... making this a perfect choice for my 365 project, as well as a suitable entry for this challenge.
@michael1947
Michael, I used colored filters to take pictures of the chains and then touched them up with Colorama. There is other software that colors the background. For the Collage I used Tiled. I use it all the time. It is very flexible. I will help you anytime. Just ak. Thanks. Kathy
@michael1947
Michael, I also used Funny Pictures+, Bokeh Photo, and Rainbow. This software is all on my Ipad and is mostly free. Microsoft May have some equivalent software. Kathy
@kathyboyles Thank you very much for your reply, much appreciated. I use Apple computers. I will have a look at the software you mentioned. Thanks again:-)
@mrsbaldy nothing to stop you cropping but it's a great shot anyway. I think it still fits with the theme but I can see a couple of ways you could crop if you were going that way :)
@iqscotland yes discovered that and added a tag. An old lady over the road died. 2 old dears cleared the house and dumped anything arty they did not know what to do with In my drive. So the pile of chains was part of that rather lovely legacy
I tried a few different edits @iqscotland and i decided to stick with what i have... To be honest there are so many amazing other photos i dont think i have much of a chance.. Lol.. A few galahs were playing on the same chain today so i tried something different but still with a bird and the chain..
Thank you @neatz .. I love the colour of the birds as well.. It takes all i have not to have my whole project in just them... Lol...
@mrsbaldy I know how you feel. I Did a challenge this week on loss which involved a trip to the local cemetery. I was entranced by the angels and took enough photos to last weeks. Tried to condense into 4 days!

Here are some chains
Your other shot has some serious colour going on. Did you know there's also an abstract mundane challenge that runs alongside this one?
