Challenge, Haiku-5

March 16th, 2014
What is Haiku?
According to dictionary.com - a major form of Japanese verse, written in 17 syllables divided into 3 lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables, and employing highly evocative allusions and comparisons, often on the subject of nature or one of the seasons.

I enjoy writing poetry, and I have enjoyed learning about Haiku. I'm not the best at it, but I find it to be an interesting form that challenges preciseness in communication. Matching an image to it is a bit of reversal to the typical fashion of writing the haiku to an image. It should be fun, and hopefully a challenge.

----------------------------------------------------------------

What to do:

1. I'll post a Haiku that I authored each week.

2. You find a take a photograph during that week that fits the Haiku.

3. Make sure that you tag your photograph haiku-xx, where xx is the number listed in the subject for this week.

4. I'll select 5 finalists and post them for votes from the public.

5. The photograph that receives the most votes in a week, wins the bragging rights. (sorry, I'm out of new cars)

6. We'll do it all over again with another Haiku from me, next week.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Week 5 -
- Sunday, Mar 16 (00:01) through Saturday, Mar 22 (23:59) post Week 3 image(s)
- Sunday, Mar 23 through Saturday Mar 29 (23:59) vote on your favorite of 5 Week 5 finalists
- Sunday Mar 30 Week 5 winner announced.

WEEK 5 HAIKU – Children

the lanes of your life
are paved with pasts' reflection
pass freely, take heed

This is not a photo but a short film and not even mine. It's made by a collegae of mine, Gela Chikhinashvili, who's a very artistic filmmaker and has won international prices. He's unfortunately jobless at the moment and can use any publicity he can get, although he's far too modest to promote his own work.

Although it's made out of moving images, it looks like he used photos. But when you look closely you can see little things (like grass) move. The music is great!

When I read this haiku, Gela's film immediately popped into my mind. I hope you'll enjoy this 2,5 minutes film that fits this beautiful haiku so well :)

Oh, I just realized I had the tag wrong. I left out the hyphen. Hope it's not too late.
