This is Udaipur, India. Founded in 1553, Udaipur is famous for its Rajput-era palaces. To the left of the image is Lake Pichola and arguably the best hotel in India located right on the lake - Hotel Lake Palace. The palace is almost entirely made of white marble. Several scenes from the 1983 James Bond film "Octopussy" were shot here. On the right bank of the lake towards the center of the photo is another palace - named City Palace - which boasts India's 2nd biggest palace/museum complex. Towards the back of the image is Lake Fateh Sagar, the 2nd biggest lake in Udaipur. In the background you will see the Aravalli mountain range that spans across northwestern India. Udaipur is sometimes called the "Venice of the East" according to wikipedia, though I have to admit I'd never known that till recently :)
Here are the rules for RAWCOMP25.
"All editing must be done with a RAW processor, using no other software or plugins" - so either Lightroom, Adobe Camera RAW, the RAW processing software that came with your camera, but nothing else that does more than RAW processing - no NIK plugins, no compositions, no other editing other than RAW processing. This differentiates it from WWYD, where any editing goes"
The challenge will run from July 15th thru July 27th. Please tag your entries RAWCOMP25
Ok...I'm gonna go first! Totally against my nature but I figure someone has to! Good luck to everyone!!!! Here is my edit done in lightroom only in raw format. These are really fun to decide what to do with them. Great pic @lambda and thanks for hosting!
I liked the idea of it being night time ..... the tungsten option in the raw processing on elements gave me the lovely blue colour .... the rest is playing with contrast and the white settings in particular :)
Great starting picture Amit! I guess I won'tbe able to participate this time because I'm having trouble with my mac pad. It keeps selecting and dragging stuff on its own. I can't edit any of my pictures. :-) hopefully, I'll be able to fix before the challenge date ends.
@lambda I'm having trouble opening the RAW file. I'm on Photoshop CS6, and the message is that there may be a problem with a "Camera Raw update" Any suggestions?
@lambda Ah.. Apparently some models of Canon produce files that won't open in Adobe without conversion (!) There's a conversion utility on Adobe's website that takes CR2 to DNG.
@skjgraphics You inspired me to go for the crop again. I was aiming for a "Carribbean" look: blue water and sunny. I think I got the water, but still looks a little overcast to me.
@houser934 Hi Kathryn, I'm glad you figured out how to download the image :) Very nice edit - this particular palace-island is where we (me and my family spent 3 nights - it was most awesome!
@ikamera Kiran, two great edits from you! I especially like the first one - you brought out the details in the clouds really well.. and the high vibrance/saturation works very well for me! Thanks!
@houser934 Nice Crop Kathryn! I think you did a great job! The white palace holds a lot of interest now that was maybe otherwise overlooked and the POV you created is great!

I loved the mountains and sky. It kind of looks like a storm was brewing. I gave it a slightly golden hour glow.
I went for b&w and a little bit of cropping
A daytime panorama!
