First off, sincere thanks, ladies and gentlemen, for voting for my Sue Ford-inspired photograph. Thanks, too, Wendy @wenbow for choosing my photo. And lastly, congratulations to the four other finalists; I am extremely chuffed to have been in your company.
I made a diligent research on more recent Canadian artists and photographers but I also wanted to choose someone with a diverse portfolio so that everyone can participate. Heck, I couldn't choose from any of the few that I liked. I consulted the illustrious list at Magnum Photography and after viewing the portfolio of about a trillion photographers (just 6 actually), I settled on Larry Towell.
Larry Towell, it turns out, is a Canadian, from Ontario, no less. He became a freelance photographer in 1984 and his works included "the Contra War in Nicaragua, the civil war in El Salvador, relatives of the disappeared in Guatemala, and American Vietnam War veterans who worked to rebuild Vietnam. His first magazine essay looked at the ecological damages from the Exxon Valdez oil spill. He always works with traditional film, eschewing digital options: “Black and white is still the poetic form of photography. Digital is for the moment; black and white is an investment of time and love.” He has also worked with panoramic cameras, which allow him to shoot the “landscapes of destruction”--looking at human beings and their place in the landscape." - (wikipedia.org)
The challenge starts Thursday, May 19 and will run through to June 3, 2016, at midnight New York/Toronto time. Only photographs taken on or between these dates will be chosen for voting by your peers. You may take a photograph that is in the photographer's style; you may emulate a certain photograph if at all possible, or simply be inspired by his work.
You may enter more than one photo. In each case, however, and when it's possible, I would appreciate it very much if you would include a link to the photograph(s) that inspired such photo. Also, I encourage you to post your entry/ies on to this discussion to keep it active and to inspire others. Simply click on the three dots (…) at the bottom of your photo’s narrative, copy the Embed Code and paste it on your comment here.

although not a Mennonite, the mostly hidden face is indicative of some of the photos in that series.
