You have another week to get some GIF making done, here is the link to the original challenge details,
I note there are instructions for GIMP and also PS Elements, should you wish to try with those programs.
has anyone tried the phone apps?
Thanks for the reminder Kali... I keep meaning to try to think of something... Out of curiosity, what is the difference between gif, stop motion and time lapse photography? I know stop motion is generally about creating a video, but in all practicalities, are these Photo techniques essentially the same or fundamentally different?
i think they are the same in that they are a sequence of photographs , However stop motion is generally referring to making inanimate objects move, such as making a chess piece move around a chess board, claymation is a subset of stopmotion in that a blob of clay would change shape and morph such as in the Wallace and Grommet movies.. timelapses i have seen are suited to natural subjects that change over time, such as cloud movement, star motion, shadows creeping. But gif can be completely random if you want it to be, it is generally used a web device for showing several text or product shots in one space to catch the eye but can be used creatively. cinemagraphs are very cool, have you checked what those are? link to 150 cinemagraphs
instructions are in the original post but there are dozens of videos on youtube as well.
@northy GIF is Graphic Interchange Format, a manner to compress image files for transfers. A GIF, as I understand, operates like a 'Flipbook' a series of still frames; video allows pixels within the same frame to change. A GIF would 'animate' a stop motion series of photos. One can also convert a video to a GIF.
@365projectltaylor of course there is always a more technical explanation :) thanks. yes GIF is a file format for web display which you can use creatively @northy
@kali66 they also seem to be based on video - which i haven't the patience to learn at the moment... that's ok... i have an idea of what to try... hope to get to it tomorrow :)
