The current composite challenge is still in process but it won't be long before time runs out. Here's the particulars:
Many thanks to Sally @salza for hosting the last composite challenge and a special thanks to all who voted for my photo. (As an aside I'm pleased to say your enthusiasm over this picture compelled me to enter it for consideration in a show at the Pennsylvania Center for Photography and it was chosen!) So now it's time to get a new edition of the composite challenge up and running.
A composite photograph is one that is made up of several photographs or pieces of photographs which have been merged or layered together. It can also include textures and effects that have been applied to the picture as well. Composite photography gives you a lot of room for creativity and ingenuity as you manufacture photos composed of elements that might not necessarily be found together in reality but somehow they seem completely at home with one another in the new picture. Some composites take related photos and merge them together to form a whole new picture. It's totally up to the photographer as to what they want to portray and how they will portray it.
If you're new to compositing, 365 is the place to give it a try! And to get you started there are many, many free tutorials online, ranging from beginners' advice about masking and layers, to more advanced techniques.
For our composite challenge here on 365 you must use at least one picture that is completely yours but you can blend in other images, such as stock images, if you so choose. Just keep in mind that should you use an image that is not yours it should be licensed as free to use for any purpose.
You are can enter the composite challenge as many times as you’d like but only one entry from any contestant may be chosen as a finalist.
Our theme this time around is “Tell Me a Story”. Did you have a book or favorite bedtime story as a child? Or perhaps you know a child who has a favorite story which they have you read to them over and over! Your challenge for this composite is to illustrate that story. Remember to avoid using pictures where copyright issues come into play (i.e. you may have to allude to your favorite characters without actually showing their images in your composite). And if you’re brave enough, maybe you’ll add yourself into the story! If you didn’t have a favorite story as a child, pick one you’re familiar with now and illustrate it. Children’s stories like composites celebrate creativity and imagination, so let yours loose on this challenge and tell me a story!
Composite 30 will run from 10/24/2020 to 11/21/2020. Voting will take place on Nov. 22 and 23 with the winner announced on Nov. 24th.
