Give the pollinators a break! Let them have the weeds and wildflowers during the month of May and save any necessary mowing for the Summer. Let us see those weeds, wildflowers, bees and other insects. Whether you choose to do an entire month or just shoot what you can - it's fun to do!
No Mow May actually began in the UK and has been gaining traction in the USA for a while now. A brief history and summary here - https://beecityusa.org/no-mow-may/

This theme runs from May 1 to May 31. I look forward to seeing those calendar views on June 1st.
Don't know about "No Mow May" but for the past 2 years I have been practicing "No Weed Borders". It may not look fantastic but I have noticed an incredible increase in flora and fauna especially insects. I don't think some of the neighbours think much of it but it works for me. The grandchildren still come and mow the lawn, occasionally, but it is not down that often which also helps to encouraging wild-life.
@yorkshirekiwi I certainly understand about that. Do what you can but only if you want to. =)
@allsop LOL! There are some here who have home owners associations that also have rules about neatly manicured yards. Shoot what you can - if you want to. =)
@marlboromaam You are right, on the whole I think Resident's Associations are not such a good thing, in my experience they often start out with good and ulttuistic intentions but soon become more negative and even "cliquey".
I had the local bylaw enforcers after me last May, but not till the end of the month. They informed me that it was OK to leave a small patch of lawn unmowed, but not the whole thing. I'll be participating again, but perhaps not to the same extent as last year.
Most definitely will do this - wonderful theme! Thanks, Mags.
