First of all THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH for voting for my Cindy Sherman picture! That's so cool. I'm so glad you guys liked it, I had tons of fun learning about her and making that series, so thank you guys.
Ok so onto the next artist!! I chose Rene Magritte for our next artist- he's whimsical, a little crazy, and definitely unique. He became well known for a number of witty and thought-provoking images. His intended goal for his work was to challenge observers' preconditioned perceptions of reality and force viewers to become hypersensitive to their surroundings. (Wiki)
His early work was more of an Impressionistic style, which would be fun to recreate in a photograph! He then began to focus more on the Surrealist approach, creating work that juxtaposed ordinary objects in an unusual concept.
My favorite thing about him is that he described the act of painting as "the art of putting colors side by side in such a way that their real aspect is effaced, so that familiar objects—the sky, people, trees, mountains, furniture, the stars, solid structures, graffiti—become united in a single poetically disciplined image. The poetry of this image dispenses with any symbolic significance, old or new.” (Wiki)
You can create his style of images with or without digital manipulation, but creativity and outside of the box thinking is a MUST!! I'd love to see more than just recreating his specific images and instead researching his work and coming up with your own versions in an actual emulation! So that's what I'll be looking for!
*PLEASE CHANGE YOUR TAG FROM THEME-MAGRITTE TO ARTIST-MAGRITTE!!* Ross has asked us not to use the theme- tag unless it is an official theme for the week please!
The time period for this is starting today (5/17) and ended next Friday May 27th!
Let's tag these photos: 'artist-magritte' but make sure that you guys post the entries here too so we can all see!
OmG - Magritte is my all time favourite artist! I haven't taken part in the artist challenge before because I was a bit intimidated with the amazing entries but I will just have to take part now!
Unfortunately I will not be able to participate in the challenge cos Tomorrow I will start my boat trip, so I will post here an entry just for your inspiration that I made some days ago.
Great choice! Yet another artist whose work I've seen but know next to nothing about. It'll be fun discovering plenty of his works I'd never encountered too.
@amyhughes@sourkraut do not forget about his sculpture also. One of my favorite artists since grade school, and I recently stumbled across some of his metal work when I was in Munich.
@sourkraut I am thinking of something along these lines, but we shall see how successful this whole composition thing will work since I have the skill set of a five year old on photoshop.
