Mek (@mastermek) has asked me to host the next artist challenge, and I have selected Australian photographer Max Dupain, whose work spans from the late 1930’s until his death in 1992.
He photographed portraits, fashion photography, landscapes, nudes, still life, flowers, architecture, and even what would these days be referred to as street photography. The images are identifiably straightforward and direct, and Dupain purposefully worked only in black and white throughout his career.
If you google Max Dupain there are over 28,000 images for inspiration. There are also images and information here.
If you don’t normally upload or work in B&W, here is your chance to try something new! You can change the settings on your digital camera to shoot in monochrome, or use an editor like Photoshop, or free online editors like Picnik or pixlr-omatic
Please remember the photo needs to have been taken and uploaded in the next SEVEN days. You don’t have to try and recreate a specific shot (although this is allowed) – more importantly, it is your representation of the style... (hint – start with the composition and lighting).
The contest starts today 8 November 20:30 Australian EDST (09:30 GMT) and your entries will be accepted until 15 November 20:30 AEDST (09:30 GMT).
** You must TAG your entries artist_dupain in the tag section when you upload your entry to one of your albums.
**Remember that posting your photo to this discussion page is OPTIONAL, but to do so, go to your uploaded photo, copy the "share" code to the right, and paste it in a comment on this page.
*Multiple entries are fine and on 16 November 5 finalists will be selected.
So that’s your challenge – you have a huge number of subjects to select from, good luck and I really do look forward to seeing your entries.
Just out of interest, I have pretty high level security on my computer and it has told me not to go to your first link, maxdupain...gallery, as it is dangerous with malicious spyware. Perhaps the google option of his images may be a better option.. (Just rechecked...it is definitely the actual maxdupain.com proper site that my security is telling me not to touch...there are plenty of great images just on the google search) Tracey
