upgrading my camera?

September 8th, 2010
so right now i have a nikon D3000. 2 lenses. the regular 18-55 mm, and a 55-200 mm nikon lenses.
I want to upgrade to a better nikon, any recommendations?
do i have to look for a specific one that will be able to fit the lenses that i have, or does any nikon camera fit the same lenses?

Hi Hila,
The D3000 has a "crop" sensor, so your lenses are meant to go on a Nikon camera with a crop sensor. The designator on the lens is "DX". As long as you buy any Nikon camera with a crop sensor, those lenses will work. Note that they will work on a full sized sensor Nikon camera, but the camera will operate as if it is a crop sensor camera. A couple years ago I upgraded from a Nikon D40 to my D300. Absolutely love the D300. It has the crop sensor, so all my lenses work just fine with it. It also has an autofocus motor in the body so I can buy Nikon lenses that don't have the motor in the lens. Save a bit of money that way.

I have a D300 and would recommend it as well. the only difference between a D300 and D300s (what you can buy new) is video if I recall correctly. So you can find a good deal on a used D300 if you don't want the video.

If you didn't have those DX lenses, I'd just say go into a D700 if your budget allowed...

The Nikon D7000 is expected to be announced next week. (sept 15th) It should replace the D90, and it should be hot.

The specs aren't official, but should be accurate.
16MP, DX, ISO range from 100 - 25,600, 6fps, dual SD card slots, full 1080 HD video, and an expected price around $1200.

I'm tempted to dump a few old cameras and pick one up.
