@carrieoakey Try these things and the higher numbered items will start to cost you as you acquire more photographic toys:

1) Capture the moon as if it were a bright day since the moon is really bright, even during supermoons and the eclipse = ISO 100, f/5.6 to f/11 at 1/250. You can vary these settings and adjust for how clear and the level of light intensity you're receiving at your location.
2) Spot metering
3) Mirror mode and use a remote (wireless or wired)
4) Tripod is a must if you want details
5) Use a telephoto as a minimum 200mm and up
6) Add a teleconverter (ranges from 1.4x to 2x), check compatibility of your camera and lenses

Have fun!

We're holding our breath. The eclipse begins shortly after moonrise and ends close to midnight here on the east coast. It's definitely something we can see IF the weather holds out. At this point, the hourly forecast is CHANGING every hour, which is about how often I'm looking at it! But we're planning to head out and look for it anyway.

Hadn't thought of the teleconverter, @mikegifford, but I'll definitely pack it now.

once again the beautiful no clouds weather we have had for weeks has decided to thwart my efforts! I will be very suprised if the clouds dissipate before nightfall! Looking forward to what others will post!

In the northeast US, the time is from about 8 pm until midnight. The day has been cloudy on and off. The prediction keeps changing. Really hoping the weather cooperates!

It was cloudy here, but we caught some breaks in the clouds at the right spot and at the right time.

Woke up at 3AM and went for a drive in the countryside around Brussels. It got misty after the full eclipse so this is one of the last photos I could make of the moon
