Home Set Up

Hi

I now own a few items that allows me to take photos at home for a mini studio setup. This is in no ways professional but helps to get nicer pictures for the family album.

I shoot with a canon 700d and have a 430exii speedlight which doesn't do a bad job. I would like a bit more light, but I really don't have the space for full studio lighting. Does anyone know if I can operate two 430exii from the camera popup flash or would I need the more expensive master canon speedlight or remote flash triggers? I really don't want to speed that much on a flash and you can pick up a second hand 430 for around £100 quid. I was thinking of adding two softbox adaptors to them to replace the studio lights.

Also can you get such a thing as a flashgun tripod???

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

@pixiemac by any chance do you know the answer to this??

Would be really grateful for you're input if you wouldn't mind.

@johnston1364 Your 430ex ii should have come with a plastic foot that has a screw thread that fits on a regular tripod.

This guide from Canon explains how to use multiple speedlights:

Hi Rob, I use the Yongnuo flashes and the controllers when I need more light, way cheaper than the Canon versions and if you don't want front lighting from using the onboard flash to fire them, that's when the controller comes in :)

Flash £45 (not too horrific if you drop it on the floor, like I did with my Canon one )

Controller £25 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yongnuo-RF-603CII-C3-Wireless-Flash-Trigger/dp/B00HVTIYWE/ref=pd_rhf_se_s_cp_5?ie=UTF8&dpID=41gW4Bis9jL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_SL500_SR135%2C135_&refRID=1QYAVB0FBNG7124KR8Q4

and I attach the flashes to lighting stands using the foot that is supplied with the flash

Hope this is of some help :)

@pixiemac Sarah. This option seems like a sensible one as I only will use this once in a blue moon. You mention you had a canon. Did you ever use the yonguo with a canon speed light? If so did the controller fire both?? As I already own one 430 speed light.

Wondering if a cheaper flash and remote triggers might be the way forward??

Thanks for you're input.

Ummm

@johnston1364 Your built-in flash can operate as a "remote flash controller," for certain Canon Flash units that can operate as a "slave" unit. At least that is what the manual for the T5i (the US branding of the camera) says. Chapter 8 of the T5i manual, P229 and following will tell you how to do it. You can get this at the canonusa.com web site if you don't have a similar reference to a non-USA reference manual. I don't know the features of the speedlight you reference however.

A "flash gun tripod?" A regular flash gun stand like this perhaps?
