aperture3/elements8/cs4 ??

I was just wondering what everyone was using for editing photos, if you edit at all. I was using Aperture but it just broke on me. I can't decide if I should invest in Aperture 3 or get elements 8 or cs4. I don't think that i change much in my photos but i was interested in what everyone else was doing..maybe looking for some inspiration photos of what you've done in a selected program. is it true that CS4 is kind-of like aperture3 and elements combined?

the only reason why i'm considering CS4 is because i found this site http://www.journeyed.com that gives massive discounts to college students on computer software. they have CS4 for $399 when regular price is $999. i want it caz it's so cheap but ..lol.. i don't really know if i need it..ok i think i might sound crazy now..lol

I use Lightroom and am really happy with it.

I use lots of different programs, but have CS3 and use that along with the built in editor with iPhoto which I use when I'm lazy. I've tried Picasa a few times as well.

I use iPhoto to make any adjustments I think the photo needs. Only once have I gone to Photoshop and that was in my finger photo where I had to remove the string holding up the wrist section. http://365project.org/rayswrld/365/2010-02-27 I am not looking for any results as if I were a graphic artist. I try to get all my creativity into the shot with only minor adjustments later.

Nikki,

I think it all boils down to how much control you wish to have in processing your photos.
Many people who use Elements love it, but it definitely does not have the abilities of photoshop.

If you are only going to be doing simple adjustments and effects, then Elements or iPhoto are more than enough.

If you want complete control (and creative license), then photoshop is the way to go.

Nuffin'

I'm not cool enough to have any good software... I occasionally crop pictures in "Preview" for Mac... Nothing more...

You could try GIMP. It has all the power of photoshop, but is a FREE, open-sourced software. It works on PC, Linux or Mac. (I have it on my Mac.) I am trying to learn how to use it - the interface is a little different from Photoshop. I have not done much serious editing for this project. Just vignettes or collages in picasa or picnik.

GIMP and UFRAW. Takes some getting used to but a very powerful combo.

I use iphoto and photoshop. I loved aperture but it killed my computer's memory. If you loved it too, invest in it. It really depends on how you work. I can't tell you what's best for you because I don't know what your workflow is like. :p

Kit - you can actually do a lot with preview now (with snow leapord). It has a similar editing feature to iphoto in the tools>adjust color menu...though not as many features, it does help.

If you go on the adobe website, you can get 30-day trials of elements8 and cs4, so you could play with both and see what you fancy. They also do discounts for students if you buy straight from them. I'm trying out elements at the moment and quite like it.

I rarely do anything to my photos (still can't help feeling this is cheating) but occasionally I use iPhoto to get rid of red eyes or crop/straighten a photo. I recently had someone turn the camera on me - a nasty thing to happen - and I had a scab on the side of my nose. I decided to try to get rid of it and used iPhoto to edit it and hey, presto! The scab was gone in a second!

I've only joined here and yet to get into the swing of things.

I use Aperture 3 and it's now much better with the 3.02 release. Given every camera does preprocessing anyway, editing a photo as well as taking the photo is all a part of the creative process, in my opinion. The photo represents the feeling and end result that YOU want.

I also have CS4 and play around with some TiltShift pics when the mood (and image) grabs me.

I recently started post-processing my photos...After breaking my photoshop CD, I didn't want to spend another 100 dollars, so through som searching came upon a program called GIMP. It is very much like photoshop, and best of all..it's free. You can download it from www.gimp.com Or google GIMP and pick a download site...I'm very happy with it

I have met a new friend on 365 her name is Nancy Marie Farnum. Check out her work she uses paint.net and photoscape . Her pictures are fabulous! There are numerous free editing options as well as programs to buy.
It may sound cool to say you have CS4/CS5 but if it is more then you need or as I have heard many people say they hardly know what it does.Maybe saving the cash by using a free editing option and investing in lenses would be fun?

Great point, Cathy!! Would much rather invest in lenses!
