We are going to Georgia Aquarium this friday and I was wondering if anyone has tips for using a point and shoot Cannon camera. It has default Aquarium setting but not sure I want to use it. ANy help would be great.

Thanks

my first suggestion, would be to turn off your flash... there should be enough light to take photos without it... the flash will just cause a annoying glare... turn your ISO setting to whatever the environment is (low or high lighting)..

have fun out there!

yeah make sure your flash is off....... I have an aquarium setting on my camera. so i use that a lot.... try and get close to to class. as the further away the more finger marks. glare you get.. take a million shots and you may get 100 good ones.. lol

Try to make sure your as even with your target as possible. Remember, they're behind glass, so there's distortion. Also, aiming up (for those really big tanks full of big fish) may mean you get some glre from the lights above the tank.

Usually aquarium settings on Sonys are bogus, but Canons should be better about it. The idea is that the colors in the tank are hightened to make sure the blue water doesn't affect everything else.

@individuality_a , yeah I have a Canon and I have used the setting not only in the aquarium but other "window" shots and its a great feature!

I did a ton of aquarium shots in my Project back in July. I've found that if you take photos at an angle, it works well. The flash has to be off, of course, and getting in there and pressing yourself flat against the glass is helpful too! Have fun!!

Have fun! I love going to the aquarium. All of the advice on here is spot on. You will probably need to push you ISO to 800 to get enough shutter speed to not get blur. No flash and right up to the glass in order to not get reflections of you and people around you.

My best shots at the Indianapolis Zoo were in the dolphin dome. I ended up in one of the entrance tubes taking pictures and gained the attention of one of the dolphins. He was swimming right up and posing and just putting on a show for us. Here is my 365 submission from that. http://365project.org/michaelpage/365/2010-03-27

The GA aquarium is awesome but ITA with @bjboelke36 to turn off of the flash. Since they are encased in plastic and glass, you will get a glare if you dont turn it off. But most of the tanks are pretty well lit, so you will be able to get some pretty decent shots without any motion blur :) We just went there a few weeks ago.

Thank you all so much for the tips. We went to Petsmart today and took some shot of the fish tanks there to practice. LOL
