I came across this photo yesterday and I was in awe of it. It is so beautiful and nicely composed. After reading a lot of the comments, I learned it was a composition of 2 photos taken and merged together. My question is what do you think he used to get this type of lighting? I would LOVVVVEEE to try to get a shot like this of my son and I. Thanks in advance. Here is the picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/deskounlmtd/3695922896/
black background of course, I'd say one light. Looks to me like it is in the back of the frame off to the right side....(I was looking at the reflection in their eyes that's why I say that...it's a soft box for sure)
I agree with the soft light, but I think it is in front and to the left and about 1or 2 feet higher than the subject and or flash with bounce from a higher point as well
@rrt I can definitely see that Richard. Would the reflection be in their eyes that way if it was higher than the subject though? It seems like it would be higher in their eyes right? But the top of the heads are better lit than the bottom, so yes that makes sense.
Well, the easy way to do it would be take the two shots separately and insert one on the other and give the illusion of the subjects being next to each other.
...but I don`t know.
Ya, It's 2 separate shots. Black background. And looks like they used a soft light behind/front of them at a diagonal for the outline of the face and a 'hair' light above them. You just don't see it as much on the older brother as much as you do on the child.
This is a really neat idea, I may 'borrow' this sometime.

Yeah, one light used - in fact it was just the huge terrace window sidewise. http://www.flickr.com/photos/deskounlmtd/3695922896/page11/
