Its not easy being green

March 17th, 2011
Hi everyone. After some help today. Got this shot of my Finlay being rather naughty. Used Hipstamatic (trying to cpomplete an iphone 365) and it was really dark. When I have fiddled with the fill ight etc. to brighten it up I've been left with this green tinge to the pic. Any tips on how to fix this? I have other shots that are better but once she knew I was there she began posing, and I really want to be able to keep the "oh no" essence of the shot. Any help would be appreciated as I am only learning and have no idea!

The color temperature looks alright to me. You might try adjusting hue, and if possible remove some "green" from the photo in some program's color adjustment modes (i.e. reduce green saturation).

I myself might consider converting this photo to back and white though. Hope this helps.

What are you using to edit? Can you do selective luminance or saturation to pull the green out?

I agree that the black and white might work for this shot. In the meantime, it looks like you shot this with the John S lens. John S adds green tones and a slightly mottled effect. I use it quite a bit but I love the effect that it has. For this shot, I would recommend either the Jimmy lens (adds a little bit of washed out lemony yellow) or the new Tejas lens which is part the SXSW free pak (available for a limited time so run and grab it if it is still available). It adds a small border of vignetting around the shot and a nice warm glow which has kind of a warm retro feel.

Ahem...so, I love Hipstamatic by the way. ;)

I know that there are some Hipstamatic combination charts out there that give a guide of lens/film/flash combos but I have had more fun with trial and error. My project is about 50% iPhone (read Hipstamatic! LOL) and 50% Nikon so feel free to take a look. =)

And Hipstamatic has a color editing pack now too.... that might help manipulate the colors some...

I love the picture the way it is tho'. It's a great capture!

@viranod Thanks, I will give the black and white a go. I think you might be right on that.

@sdpace Only using picasa at the moment and it only has basic edits. Can't select specific clour on saturation etc. I have been trying to work my way through photoshop but find it really time consuming. So far for my 'happy snaps' I haven't needed to do a lot of complicated editing. They are only for me so it doesn't really matter but this was the first time I've been dissapointed and not been able to fix it. I might have to make an effort to try something else. Any tips for good editing packages that aren't to complex ....I'm not too tech savy hahaha

@autumnseden Yep John S Lens! My favourite to, but so far in most of my pics I've been getting blue tones rather than green. however this is the first time I've shot with John S where there hasn't been lots of natural light so that may be why I haven't noticed the green and seen blue. I will have a look at the new adds to hipstamatic and play around. Thanks for the tip. Will check out your 365. Always nice to see others iphone pics and learn from those who do it well :)

@celticmystyc Thanks for the hot tip.....and as always for such nice feedback :)

@trudip try the Iris Application for your phone, it has individual color adjustments and different effects for color, black and white and fun. That may fix things that need an adjustment from other apps.

@brumbe is right. Hipstamatic is always my go to app but I also like PictureShow and Iris. =D
