i personally think you should go for CS5, as it will allow you to do more...Lightroom is more specialized and works well in conjunction with both photoshop and elements programs...however, if you are looking for more specifics for your edits(ie..batch processing for exposure) than lightroom is the way to go. having used both, i prefer the wide range of options that photoshop allows for creativity, but i know those who swear by lightroom:)
batch edit in LR3 and managing files for uploading to my smugmug/facebook/website is worth every dime.... plus it has every edit I need for 99% of the photos I do...
CS5 is good too... I use it for editing video... and for those other 1% of things where I need to cut and paste.... totally different things...
but if you ever need to showcase files on your computer to a client... LR3 works so smooth!
I need both. Lightroom is by far the main workhorse, but there are things that need CS5's capabilities. Also, Lightroom does a lot of things CS5 can't do. If you have the latest version of Elements, I think you'd get more out of Lightroom, but if you're just looking for "more-betterer-Photoshop" get CS5.
depends, are you editing or enhancing, look through my gallery, that was all done with lightroom, if i had done it all in photoshop it would have taken me about 20 times as long
