Best Camera

May 5th, 2011
I'm looking at getting a canon rebel T2i. those of you who've seen most of my work -- do you think that this is a good camera for me?

what do professionals use?
what lenses am i going to want?

i want this camera to last me a really long time, and be able to do everything, and not limit me once i grow in my skill in photography.
give me your advice, oh wise ones! :D

The T2i is a great camera. It shares many features found in high-end models without costing a professional price. Ultimately, unless you need some super high-end feature only found on a professional camera you are better off buying a decent mid-range camera body and invest the rest in better lenses. Good lenses can last a lifetime and stretch from one camera to another over the years as you upgrade (provided you stick with the same brand).

For lenses there really is no right answer. It all comes down to what you want to shoot. So without knowing what your goals are it's hard to say what lenses will be best.

If you want, check out my project. Every photo (except one I think) has been taken with a Canon T2i.

@stationary315 - That is a wonderful camera! I have the Canon Rebel T1i... one step below that. Those things can do some damage ;)

@stationary315 - I have the T2i also, for the exact same reason Jeremy voiced. I *love* it. The new T3i has the flip out screen (which I miss from my old camera) but other than that, I wouldn't trade my T2i. Buying a more affordable body has enabled me to get a number of lenses which, from what I'm told, is where you get the real bang for your buck. Again, like Jeremy said, depends on what you're planning on shooting but I think everyone should have a 50mm, but that's just my opinion. =)

I have the T1i and it's great! I think the whole series is really good, so I'm sure you'd be happy with it! Try going into some stores (like Walmart or Best Buy) and try them out! :)

@stationary315 I have the T1i myself. I have no complaints about it. You may want to look at the new T3i though. I would like to have the flip out screen myself.

definitely considering t3i or t2i. do any of you know if there's an option to not get the video recording? i probably won't really use it and don't want to pay any extra for it. @joshuaramey @refriedradio @tkallen @lauren211 @marubozo

@stationary315 I googled it but didn't find any results. I think the video feature is just built in now!

@stationary315 If you don't want video you can't get a T2i or T3i without it. It's just part of the feature set. The only real option would be to opt for something like the XSi or maybe T3 and that might save you about 100 bucks, but you aren't getting the same technology as the T2 or 3i. So IMO it isn't worth dropping to a lower model just because you don't want video because you end up giving up even more features than video for the small savings.
