Photos look different from PS to web.

Why is it that I edit a photo and adjust colours etc. in PhotoShop CS3, save it at maximum quality as a jpg then upload it on the internet, when it appears on here, or tumblr etc, the colours are slightly different?

Is it something that can be fixed, or is it just one of those things?

Thanks!

It may be due to "colour profiles" and is also definitely to do with the image being resized/resampled when it gets uploaded to a website, to save space. There's been a tonne of threads on this in the past, have a search for "colour profile" or "resampled" and you should find them :)

@eyebrows Would love to know what colour profile to save as for here, though the changes seem image specific oftentimes...

Facebook is a nuisance for changing little things, every now and again a batch gets all softened...

@killerjackalope i *think* sRGB is some sort of defacto default on the web, although I'm not sure.

@eyebrows Aye, I think it is, though on opening many web images the colour profile's missing...

Just downloaded one of my own direct from page... Missing but assigning sRGB caused no visible change there...

Though auto resizing/compression could be causing the changes just as easily, depending on how its managed...

I just assigned sRGB to mine and there was a difference, although it's still not the same as what I can see in PS.

See:

Non sRGB

and
sRGB

you need to be sure when you post to any website that the color profile is sRGB - with most dialog boxes for exports for email or websites there should be a box for that -- most of us shoot and edit in RGB as this gives us a larger range of colors which we need esp for printing shots but websites color profile is sRGB.

try to convert it to PNG (just a suggestion)

I doubt PNG will make a difference, it'll only get resampled as a JPG anyway when you upload to the site.
