Time for a Selfie?

June 20th, 2011
So I have been thinking about trying out a selfie again. It has been a while. I have been working on my portrait photography more, and trying to get the camera set up just right, as well as lighting, and processing. I think it is time to try another self-portrait. Can some of you give me some tips as well as posting examples?? Thanks in advance! (indoor and outdoor examples would be great!)

The only advice I have is just to have fun with it and know that you are absolutely beautiful just the way you are.

@meggageg: Couldn't agree more ;). My whole month of May was selfie month as with many others on here - so there should be ample examples. I had lots of fun with mine and tried out new editing techniques. I just uploaded another selfie:

Mary, I have a ton of Selfie in my project... you can have a look and ask me how I did them if you want,,, too many to post here.. but here is one I did just recently;..

Here's my most recent. Felt extremely silly because so many people walked by while I was doing it, but it was still fun to do:)

Have fun with it and be unique!

Well.... I was late to join the month of selfies 'party' in May so me & @triciaanddazzle both decided (separately) that we would do our Selfies for June...
Here are some of my favourites... I try to have them be 'about' me, anything ranging from my work, hobbies, quirky facts or things that really make me, me. It's been a great way to make you really think about what you want to say with the image & figure out what the best way to achieve that will be...

I hope they give you some inspiration to have some fun with it & maybe see how you can challenge yourself a little too!! Good luck!

I have a lot of selfies - as often it is the only model around!!
June 20th, 2011
This was from the beginning of my project, but I still love this one. Probably my favorite outdoor one I've ever done.

These are two more recent shots.

I'm planning to do self portraits all week this week too, so feel free to check back on my project throughout the week for my latest ones.

@meggageg Thank you so much! Great advice!
@jannaellen Clever idea!
@nikkers Haha! That was well done!! Freaked me out a little! ;)
@pwallis awesome!! Good for you for sticking to the plan even if it made you feel silly!
@everydaymagic Thank you!
@wadey Hmmm, great idea. That gives me a few idea. Love your example with the little elephants!
@lily beautiful selfies! They are so feminine and soft!!

@eliserose781 Awesome! I really like the tones in the last one. Very nice!

This was my last attempt. My baby is 2 months old now. :)

If you have bad hair chop the top of your hea off. Best tip I can give you.

*head - not hea

@craigdtull You should win some kind of an award for best advice ever.

some beautiful selfies here
these are some of mine

this was a camera at arm's length shot so quite pleased with it

and this one was the first time i attempted a selfie with the tripod and remote control
June 20th, 2011
@meggageg I really should! A small cup and a certificate should do it :)
June 20th, 2011
you don't have to have your head in it at all!

June 20th, 2011
When in doubt, edit the hell out of it.

Or not...

June 20th, 2011
@wadey It's just because we're that cool, haha.
June 20th, 2011

Have fun...

...And get very familiar with your tripod & timer/remote. Also, use a stand-in to focus on. I hung a towel on the bar where my head would be and manually focused on it. (Obviously you need to remove the stand-in once you're in place :})

Again...
June 20th, 2011
@craigdtull haha! I will have to remember that advice!! @sallycheese...I like the last one. Nice! @houdiniem Nice selfies! I am a huge fan of those shoes too! @triciaanddazzle Yes!! Editing can helps lots!! I also noticed how many different swim suits you have, in your pool shot!! Awesome! @thismoment Love the shot with your bird!! I have a remote, but I can't figure out how to use it. It didn't come with instructions...any tips on that? @paulremulla Nice! Color tones are great!
Thank you all so much!

@marydreams I don't have a remote yet (hoping to snag one soon). Have you made sure your camera is set for remote shutter release? You should find that setting in the one shot/multiple shot/timer/remote menu. Non knowing what the problem is it's hard to make suggestions. Also, I know that some remotes can be touchy about things in the path of their sensor so make sure you have a good line of sight between the camera and the remote.

For me it's mostly trial and error
June 21st, 2011
i second the 'when in doubt, edit the hell out of it' notion :)
This shot was one I'd had in mind for a while because I had the props (ie. the t-shirt and the glasses) available around the same time. I then tried out a bunch of effects in photoshop I'd never used before and came up with this style/image :)

June 22nd, 2011
@thismoment I tried putting the camera on the right settings, but I can't get anything to happen. I will try again though. Thank you! @luka Lovely shot! @ibelayni Really great processing! @kaost Fun and clever! I like the 80's feel of the processing!
