The top photo (taken in the 1930s) popped up on my facebook feed, so I decided to try and take a photo from the same place. Things do change in nearly 100 years.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond Haha no certainly not! Although I do have lots of photos of the area because my family were there from the 1880s. I will have to use some of those photos for comparisons.
@helenhall You are so right with that observation. Opua was a very busy port back in the day, servicing the whole of the Bay of Islands by water, also exporting coal and then lamb. Now it is a major hub for yachts coming into New Zealand, it is where the tourists boats overnight and there is a large marina there.
