This is one of the entrances to the parish church of St.Helen, Wheathampstead in the county of Hertfordshire. Lester and I went there today because, well, we'd never been before and fancied a mini excursion.
The church dates from the 13th/14th centuries, is Grade I Listed and is very pretty indeed.
I don't know whether the door is usually left wide open like this but it's not a common sight. Sadly, a lot of churches have to be locked, to prevent theft and vandalism, when not in communal use.
I thought the door furniture was beautiful and I liked the stain glass window because the colours are more muted and subtle than usual.

What a lovely composition and pov you have here. Love the door and the metal work and handle. Nice peek round the door to that window, they are so beautiful. Our church is mostly locked too.
This is just beautiful - you've caught the wood tones as well as the lovely stained glass. Do like the metal work on the hinges - wonderful detail you caught. Must have been a lovely sight to see in person.
I really like the way you composed this with the door highlighting the whole scene. The stained glass window is so lovely with the arches. Beautiful!!!
