This is the hull of nb Holland, an iron-hulled, working* narrowboat, built in 1937 by Fellows, Morton and Clayton. It's moored alongside another nb - just seen.
This part of the boat is the cargo hold ; aft there is a cabin which forms the living quarters for the haulier and his family.
A lot of the old working boats have been adapted so that, instead of having a hold, the living space runs the full length of the boat. They are either rented to holiday makers by hire companies or are privately owned and used as full time residences or touring holiday homes.
The Morris side Lester's in had a dance-out at a pub by the canal on Thursday. I spent a bit of time wandering along the towpath and couldn't resist the evening sun on the boat and in its reflection in the water. The hull's painted black in reality.

What marvelous lighting on this shot! Great POV for it - love the reflection and the crispness of your detail is awesome. Thanks for the interesting history of these.
Gorgeous colours. I'm glad you told us the hull is black, one wouldn't have guessed. Must have been super light. Its good that your hobbies complement one another's - you get to do photography at his venues!
