plains cottonwood tree... by earthbeone

plains cottonwood tree...

a
VERY
old
one.

i was loving up the deep crevices in it's bark.

we hiked pike island this afternoon....part of the fort snelling state park.

the island is full of HUGE old cottonwood, elm and silver maple trees. it was tree goodness.

the mississippi river flows on the island's northern side and the minnesota river flows on it's southern side...joining at the eastern tip of the island.

i can't wait to go back on a day less busy...and sit.
