My older son M. is normally a solid sleeper. He goes to bed about 7pm every night and wakes up about 6:30am. Last night, he woke up at 1:50am screaming for me and my husband. I soothed him and got him back into his crib about 45 minutes later. A few minutes after I left him, he started crying again, so my husband took a turn. I fell back asleep and woke up at 4am and my husband was still not back in bed. I went into M’s room to find M awake and my husband lying on the floor. M. started crying again so we brought him into our bed. That did not work, and the baby woke up. After I fed the baby, I brought them both back into M’s room so my husband could get some sleep. That did not work either, so I gave the baby to my husband and fell asleep on the floor next to my son’s crib holding his hand.
Since he did not get enough sleep, M. was exhausted today. There was lots of crying and tantrums. He only napped for about 45 minutes and woke up in a worse mood. That was when I loaded both boys into the car and drove them up and down the highway. M. finally relaxed after about 15 miles and enjoyed looking for trucks, school buses and cement mixers. Despite the fact that he was so tired, he had a hard time falling asleep tonight. My husband and I took turns comforting him until he finally fell asleep.
Poor little M :( It sounds like a terrible night for you all! You must have been exhausted too! I thought it was difficult getting up to my 4yr old at 4am to change his sheets and shower him but atleast he settled once he was in clean pj's and bed! I found it hard to fall back asleep though and now I just can't concentrate on work and am 365-ing instead!
He does look rather exhausted. Raising little ones is a full time job. I remember when mine were young I never had a weight problem as you were continuously on the go!
he does look worn out - he's about the age when they can start getting nightmares - and wake themselves up with them, then not want to go back to sleep to meet the monster again
@aleksandra oh that happens to me a lot. I am exhausted, get the baby to fall asleep and am then awake for an hour. So annoying! I hope you got a good night sleep.
Also meant to say, my eldest went through this when the youngest was about 5/6 weeks. Had to get tough in the end or we'd have been in and out of his room for cuddles all night long. (he still calls once a night to make sure we're there) Hope it gets better soon.x
Wow, I wonder what was up with him...this does seem to be his normal behavior (from what you've shared with us). I hope that the next night was better for everyone
