Landing Pad for Chimarocephala Pacifica

A "Painted Meadow Grasshopper" - that was a bit of a way from his natural home!
Range: Roughly north from Monterey County, and mostly well west of the Sierra Nevada in California. (FYI We are South of Monterey County)

The Chimarocephala Identification: Generally smoother, bulkier, with a wider fastigium than ssp. incisa. Often the median carina is continuous and uncut, but sometimes (especially inland and southward) it is cut. Brightly colored individuals (other than brown) seem to be more common in this subspecies.
Fabulous grass hopper. I don't think I've ever seen a red one before!

Great composition with him sitting in the clearing - begging for a photo to be made.
