We spent 4 nights at !Xaus Lodge. Jointly owned by the ‡Khomani San (Bushman) and Mier communities, it is the only Lodge in the the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (all the SANParks facilities are self-catering). The Lodge is on a dune at the edge of a large salt pan and consists of 12 stand-alone chalets, with communal dining, lounge and viewing deck. This is a real wilderness destination where temperatures are extreme and the living is hard. Guests go on early morning walks, sunset and night-time drives, and can spend time with local Bushman who work at the craft village. You can only get to the Lodge in a 4x wheel drive because you have to cross 90 sand dunes to get there. This is the world of the red sands of the Kalahari. It's really beautiful.
