Keeping warm in the Kalahari winter

Everyone was sitting in the boma at !Xaus Lodge after supper, and it was distinctly chilly. Alistair had stoked up the fire to create additional coals, and then popped a half-shovel full under each guests' chair. (You can see the glowing piles under the chairs.) It was so nice and toasty to have your neather regions roasted :)
Eleanor, I love your stories about your trip and this so totally different world. I feel pretty stupid not knowing anything about the history of South Africa. But at least I looked up who the ‡Khomani San and Mier communities are and know now that !Xaus Lodge means Heart Lodge in the Nama Language. Please tell us more about it.

The circle around the fire looks very protected and cozy and the coal under the chairs is just a brilliant idea.
