A good listener and a hidden speaker caught between souvenir stalls down by the water front in the fishing village of Marsaxlokk. Marsaxlokk is an interesting name as Marsa means harbour and Xlokk is the south-east. So it signifies a harbour in the south-east of the island.
It was during the weekend of 1-3 December 1989 that the Cold War was dumped in the heavy seas of this harbour as the then leaders of the United States and the Soviet Union, George Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev, met in Malta to literally draw a line on their previous differences and set sail towards a new era of world history.
Oh if common sense and the common good could prevail once more.
I truly hope and pray that your last sentence comes true in the weeks to come.
