This evening walk at Little Armier Bay was unexpected. I grabbed my camera as we were going out with little hope of capturing anything interesting. We walked along the beach, with the heat of the day still radiating from the rocks and tarmac. We stopped to watch the sunset several times although the hazy sky did not promise anything spectacular. Then I noticed that the setting sun was going to pass over St Mary's Tower on Comino.
The tower was built in 1618, the fifth of six Wignacourt towers. It was used by the Armed Forces of Malta until 2002, and is now in the hands of National Trust of Malta, Din l-Art Ħelwa. St Mary's Tower represented the prison Château d'If in the 2002 film The Count of Monte Cristo starring Jim Caviezel.
