Blue… day 5.

Neighbours.

Our local pigeons enjoying a very brief appearance of the sun today from the vantage point of our roof with a BLUE sky. There have been bad floods in the area and the Thames broke its banks and overflowed into Radnor Gardens.

Camera update - a telephone call from the technicians at Canon this afternoon - purely as a 'goodwill gesture', Canon will repair my camera for free. They are still denying liability under the warranty as they discovered water staining/corrosion of the contacts near the dial assembly. Rather amusingly the technicians advice on the action to take on a water droplet landing on the camera near the shutter button in the future (for information this area is NOT protected against any moisture despite strong promotion of the quality of weather sealing in the camera) was "there is no way to stop it…there's not a lot you can do"!!

Heh ho, at least I'll soon have my camera back again. My trusty 50D has reliably 'stepped in' and incidentally has survived far worse weather over the past four years or so of use than my 5D Mark 3 has in the past nine months, with no problems at all.
I looked back over your pics to find out about your camera woes this morning. I thought that weather proofing was one of the selling points of the 5DIII. And surely where the shutter button is is the place that is most likely to get wet, which makes the weather proofing in other places pretty much pointless. TERRIBLE!

I am glad they are going to sort it out for you. Well done for sticking to your guns.

There is no blue like a blue sky, glad you and the pigeons were able to enjoy it if only briefly. Glad your camera is being repaired, ,even if they insist it's just a "goodwill gesture". My Pentax K5 2 is supposed to be weather sealed, hope I don't have these problems down the road.

@tristansmum So far it is only the Canons I have heard with water issues, despite their promotion about weather sealing (page 19 of the 5D Mk 3 brochure which has a detailed technical drawing showing all the weather sealing which is above a photo of a man up to his chest in the sea with his camera without any cover!!!)! I have just bought another two Optech covers (very cheap on Amazon) and have devised a method of applying black tape over the shutter button on my 50D to completely seal it from water ingress and I can still effectively press it. Seems a bit amateur to stick on my 5D Mk 3 but whatever it takes...
