16th August 2015

Today we journeyed around the M25 up to visit @Padlock and his wife. I was there for two reasons - one to assist with ‘IT issues’ and secondly to borrow a Canon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO lens. @Padlock is trustingly lending me the lens so I can try it with a view to taking it away when we travel to South America next month.

I have the 70-200mm f/2.8 which is a superb lens but is also very heavy and nearly 2kgs with the lens hood on! As soon as we negotiated the traffic on the way back I was off to Bushy Park to put the lens through its paces. Unfortunately the weather became quite overcast and therefore low but it was a good test. This immature Black-headed gull was balanced on a pole in the Heron Pond which is totally covered with blanket weed at the moment!
I like the nice simple composition of this.
