We visited 2 Temple Place in London today on one of Tony's walking tours. It was built in the neo-Gothic style for William Astor back in 1892 and is full of elaborate features and deliberate signs of wealth. The building is amazing and not usually open to members of the public apart from a few weeks each year so we were luck to get in. Tony is very knowledgeable about all aspects of the building and surrounding features and I especially liked the fact that this bronze cherub is actually holding an old fashioned telephone to signify the 'modernity' of the house when it was built.
Afterwards we went for lunch at the Law Society after our friend who is a solicitor got us in there. I am not sure if it is normally open for lunch to the public but the £10.95 two course set menu was excellent value. We then strolled around the Courts of Justice and the surrounding courtyards and buildings which I have never seen before in all my time in London.
