We had a slower start today and pottered around before heading into town. We stopped at the marina which I always find interesting and had a chat with a local guy walking a sweet little black dog. He told us a lot about the cyclones that often hit the area (we never knew) and the development of the town. I bought postcards optimistically with images of humpback whales and whale sharks on them but I am not going to write them until we have hopefully gone on our two trips... fingers crossed for them.
After a coffee at the Adrift cafe we drove the short distance to Bundegi beach and walked the 3-mile round trip up to the pier and back. I was photographing all the way until we came to signs all over the pier warning that we were in a military zone and should keep clear by 400 meters - whoops, we turned around straight away... after I grabbed a few shots! The sand on the beach is perfect, postcard perfect and the shells were lovely as well. This image is of one of many bits of coral washed up on the beach.
We enjoyed dinner at the Game Fishermens’ Club in the marina. The food was excellent and unlike Whalers, despite there just being the cook and Maria who seems to do everything in the place, we were served quickly - I had a great prawn starter (the local dish).
