At last the big day that has been in the planning for five months! We left the house at 10:30 this morning at bound for terminal five on our way to Berlin. For the first time ever I had booked an airport lounge which worked out really well and actually this was probably one of the best journeys we had until we got ripped off by the taxi driver from the airport to the hotel. We are now working hard to earn back the €50 that we were overcharged by!

Our suite is amazing - it is huge and has a kitchen, living room with a sliding door to separate the room from the bedroom - it is lovely and warm.

It’s pretty nippy here at about 2° but we braved the cold to make our first trip on the underground and overground to a restaurant I had booked sometime ago. It’s always a challenge sussing our local transport but we did well and remembered to activate our tickets! It was a traditional German restaurant and despite duck being off the menu we enjoyed knuckle of pork and Colin tried hare. Somehow we did get onto the subject of Brexit and learned that Germany has a lot of its own problems as well.

Our first night in Germany has gone well although I think we will have to wrap up very warm tomorrow!
