2nd July 2023

Today we drove to Yorkshire for our break in York and then later in the week with Hester and Brian in their house in Horton in Ribblesdale. The drive was fairly good with a built in stop off the A1 at a fruit picking cafe which was very good. Before we arrived York we stopped at the Townton battlefield twenty minutes outside of the city. Colin has a new obsession of visiting battlefields which I do not necessarily share although some are interesting. This was, as I had predicted just a filed but there were good interpretation boards and I discovered this was the bloodiest battle in English history so it deserves to be remembered. It was actually a bit chilly with ominous grey skies so I was relieved to get back into he car to research the area further before we continued our journey to York.

We found our AirB&B apartment very easily and it is very nice - well equipped and plenty of space with views over the river Foss. I had bought wine and a frozen Bolognese along with manor and rice pudding for dessert so we relaxed after the drive in preparation for all the sight seeing tomorrow.
