21st April 2013

Today we watched the ‘Tudor Pull’ procession of boats which this year included the ‘Gloriana’. The procession had travelled from Hampton Court and we saw it as It passed through Teddington Lock before travelling down river to the Tower of London. Although this is an annual event it is the first time I have actually seen it. This event celebrates the River Thames and the role it has played for centuries in the history of London. Although there were less boats than I expected it was really impressive with lots of smaller boats crewed by her Majesty’s Watermen complete with Tudor outfits and hats.

We watched from a friends apartment on the river which gave the advantage of being able to photograph the entire boat and crew but next year I think I’ll try for a different angle and go down to see it pass through the Lock up close.
This is an amazing boat and so good to see this pageant! Worth watching - far more than the London marathon!

@maggiemae It is a beautiful boat and I've been lucky to see it with the Olympic flame on it at the start of the Olympics last year.

I feel the marathon has moved away from its original idea of running for the masses as the professionals and Olympians seem to take the front stage now, although it was very good to see support for the Boston runners.
