21st September 2013

Our last full day in Chicago and as it was sunny from the start, it had to be done... a trip up the Willis Tower (originally the Sears Tower).

This is the Willis Tower in all its glory, the tallest building in the U.S.A. and one of the tallest in the world. Unfortunately we had to queue for nearly 1.75 hours in 7 (yes that is correct - 7) separate queues to actually get up to the Sky Deck. As Brits, we have developed queueing into a national skill, sadly this skill has not been adopted in the U.S... it was worth it in the end though!
Goodness me! nearly 2 hours! I didn't know about the Willis! It must have been difficult getting the height of the building in the same frame!

I got some strange looks as I was kneeling on the ground trying my biggest wide angle setting! The views are stunning but it was far more commercial than the John Hancock observatory which I preferred (no queues, 5-minute around the corner from where we were staying and great coffee!).

A gorgeous shot. I'm afraid you may have to queue to get up the CN Tower in Toronto, if that's on your agenda. i have never actually been up there myself, but I've heard from those who have that it can take quite a while.

@tristansmum Thank you for the advice. As I could not face more queuing, we have booked tickets in advance and managed to print them out in Chicago. I have sent you an email yesterday, let me know if you got it safely :-)

@emmadurnford Yes Emma, I saw your email this morning and have just replied to it. Hope you have a great journey from Montreal to Toronto, and hope we can get together in Toronto, I'm looking forward to it!
