The bombard is a double reeded instrument which demands a long learning and an assiduous practice. Children learn it in Celtic associations. Bombards are hand-made, one-by-one, often on order for a particular musician. The sound of the bombard is very powerful and can be played outside with no electronic amplification, in dance parties, in all religious or official celebrations, in any social gathering or simply at sunset on the beach.
