Earlier this month, when we visited some family in Belgium, I made a short trip to my native town, Soignies in Belgium. There is an untouched 3 acres area in the middle of the city that has served as cemetery from the 10th century till the beginning of the 20th century. There are still numerous very ancient tombstones, as well as a little desecrated chapel. Although this place is peaceful and centrally located, it is usually quite empty. I guess the living does not feel comfortable with the company of the dead.
