Christmas Eve Bonfires by eudora

Christmas Eve Bonfires

Christmas Eve bonfires on the Mississippi River levee are a tradition in the communities around Lutcher and Gramercy. Structures like this one are built of firewood in December, then burned on Christmas Eve to light the way for Pere Noel. This rather elaborate one is in Convent, Louisiana and is in memory of John Anthony Young.
