The citronella plant is supposed to repel spiders as well as mosquitoes. I wondered why mine was covered in a web. Caterpillars, maybe? Googling it, I learned that this is is not TRUE citronella plant but rather a citronella-scented geranium. True citronella is a grass. No wonder we had the usual numbers of mosquitos this summer!
