Belle Helene by eudora

Belle Helene

Shot with a Minolta Xtsi, Sigma 28-200 lens, Fujifilm.

I'm having a bit of a hard time with this camera, and it's the newer of my 2 film SLR's. Even so, I'm attached to both these old cameras. They are like old friends who went a lot of great places with me...

This plantation house is Ashland-Belle Helene in Darrow, Louisiana. Vacant for years, it is now owned by Shell Chemical Company which has stabilized the structure and done some restoration work. It is rarely open to the public, so this was shot through the fence.
What a wonderful looking house. To bad they don't open it up on a regular basis

You are an expert at framing a photo, Diane. That tree is stunning here . . this looks like a plantation right out of Gone With the Wind! I'm expecting Scarlett to come running out of there! :)

I love the tree.

What will Shell want with it? I can't imagine old buildings are good investments. Great shot still, SLRs are a bit tricky but once you get the hang of it everything else seems weird I guess.

What a wonderful house. What a pity it is left unused. Great shot.

I got the same cam in a thrift store a few months ago! It has a Minolta 75-300mm lens on it. It took me a long time to warm up to it, I prefer more mechanical film cameras, but I'm finally getting to where I like it. :)
