I'm trying to decide whether or not I like doing HDR. All the images are slowing down my computer, and sometimes it seems maybe low tech film is better suited for these 160-year-old buildings.
This is beautiful, Diane. The whole compositionis gorgeous. You did a stunning job here. I agree that low tech film is wonderful for this type of building. The realism is captured, I think, with the low tech film.
HDR and film both have plusses and minuses. I think you've got a lovely shot here. Some HDR is way overdone, but I like a natural look that just adds depth to the colors and space, which I think you've accomplished here. I was reading somewhere else that HDR is supposed to give the 2D photograph a 3D feel. You definitely feel like you can walk into this picture. I'd say continue to use both. Some pictures will look better with HDR and some with film. After you've used them for a while, you'll know ahead of time which shots look best with what.
I think your photos capture the south beautifully just as they are. Haven't done any HDR myself...mixed feelings about it as I want others to see my world as it really is. Perhaps one day, I'll give it a try.
Great capture of this building. You composed it brilliantly, but it also really shows the smallness of how slaves lived. I've been trying HDR myself and still not sure if I like it or not. I figure I have to try it more to determine if that's me or not. But this is very nicely done.
HDR is effective if done with a light touch. Overdone and it's nothing more then computer graphics rather than photography. You did great here. Wonderful composition and texture.
