My husband, the resident critter expert here, says he thinks it is a Juvenile Little Blue Heron. As it gets older it will turn more blue. He loves a good bird search so ask anytime! ;)
@hbdaly Thank you and your husband very much, Holly! I googled juvenile blue heron, and there he is. Makes sense, because we have lots of mature blue herons in the area, although in my short time here I see them more in rivers and ponds and not by the ocean. Maybe he's a rebellious teenager testing his limits!
