The follies of prom: The girl to the right, the one having trouble with the train on her dress, was afraid she'd ruined this photo; I thought she made it! I have their permission to post the shot online; I usually ask, as I don't want to embarrass anyone.
Prom was a mixed experience for this granny: thousand-plus-dollar dresses and four-hundred dollar purses; custom makeup done at some girls' homes; party buses and limousines; deputy sheriffs with drug-sniffing dogs and breathalyzers. . . . It left my husband and me weighing our values (and our checkbook!) against our desire for our student to have a good but safe experience. What message does all this send to our kids?
I am so glad I am not raising a child today is the message being sent to the grandparents. Not sure what the message is to the kids. ;~} They ARE beautiful people in a lovely setting though.
What a lovely group of happy faces! One thing I notice in every youngster, wherever they live, is that they do not experience the hard way of growing up. They get whatever they want without having to 'work' for it.
I can't even imagine myself spending four hundred dollars on a purse for anything fancy let alone for the high-school prom! That's just insane. There's a message there- but it's certainly not realistic, is it? The soap box aside. The girls are lovely and you are right the back (ground) story adds life to the shot!
An here I thought the money spent on a wedding nowadays is insane, but for a prom!!!! I'm glad I'm past all that. I love the story happening on the right of the picture. certainly adds to it. lovely ladies in gorgeous gowns.
